About Us
Hey! I'm Andrew, the founder and trainer here at True North Canine! These are also my dogs, Yaxley and Julian. They're both former service dogs in training and where I got my start training and working with dogs.

Like many things, True North started as a hobby. I was simply sharing the knowledge I had with friends and neighbors. It's since turned into so much more. I've had the opportunity to help so many amazing dogs and owners since I've started, and I'm grateful for the people who have trusted me to give them the help they needed.

I always believed dogs were called man's best friend for a reason. For me, dogs are so much more than pets. They're best friends, life-long companions, and most importantly, family. We cherish all the moments that we have with them. And I want to be able to help as many people and dogs as possible live happy and fulfilled lives together.
Our Training
So... what's our style of training?

We don't love labelling dog trainers, but if you had to answer we would say we train using a balanced approach. But what does that mean?

That means that we believe in the efficacy of positive reinforcement and strive to use it wherever possible. However, it also means we are also not afraid to tell a dog "no" or correct a dog when it's necessary.

As dog owners, it is our responsibility to teach our dogs the rules, boundaries, and skills that they need in order to live together with us. In order for both owner and dog to be fulfilled in their relationships, training cannot entirely be about the dog any more than it can entirely be about the human.

Like all things in life, balance is key to dog training. We have observed through experience that over the long-term, the structure, guidance, and leadership that balance brings is ultimately the greatest gift that you could give your dog.
